Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of the Artificial Intelligence Engineers Consortium (JAIEC) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring that all published research is original and properly cited. We recognize that plagiarism undermines the credibility of academic work and is detrimental to the advancement of knowledge. As part of our commitment to academic ethics, this Plagiarism Policy outlines the procedures and standards that we follow to prevent and address instances of plagiarism in the manuscripts we receive.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the use of another person’s ideas, data, text, or other intellectual property without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Copying and pasting text from other sources without citation.
-
Paraphrasing or rewording another person's work without proper acknowledgment.
-
Presenting another person’s ideas, results, or data as one's own.
-
Reusing one’s own previously published work (self-plagiarism) without proper reference.
-
Falsifying or manipulating data to mislead or misrepresent research findings.
2. Prevention of Plagiarism
JAIEC employs the following measures to prevent plagiarism:
-
Manuscript Screening: All manuscripts submitted to the journal are screened for plagiarism using specialized plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate, to compare the manuscript against published literature and identify potential instances of copied or improperly referenced content.
-
Clear Guidelines for Authors: We provide authors with detailed submission guidelines that explain the importance of proper citation practices and outline the specific citation styles accepted by the journal.
-
Educational Resources: JAIEC encourages authors to familiarize themselves with academic writing standards and anti-plagiarism resources. We provide links to relevant tutorials on proper citation, paraphrasing, and avoiding plagiarism.
3. Plagiarism Detection
-
Screening Process: Every manuscript submitted to the journal will undergo an initial plagiarism check using specialized software. The report generated will be reviewed by the editorial team to assess the extent of potential plagiarism.
-
Threshold for Plagiarism: JAIEC considers a similarity index of less than 20% (excluding common phrases, references, and well-known terms) to be acceptable. Any similarity index higher than this will be further reviewed, and the manuscript may be rejected or sent back to the author for revision.
-
Manual Review: In addition to software detection, the editorial team may manually review suspicious sections, particularly in cases of paraphrasing or self-plagiarism, where the software may not detect subtle similarities.
4. Handling of Plagiarism Cases
-
First Instance: If plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will be returned to the author with a request for clarification or revision. The author will be asked to properly cite and attribute the sources of any material identified as plagiarized.
-
Resubmission: Authors who resubmit revised manuscripts with proper citations and corrections may have their manuscript reconsidered for publication.
-
Repeated or Severe Plagiarism: If the plagiarism is extensive or intentional, or if there are repeated instances of plagiarism by the same author, the manuscript will be rejected outright. The author will be notified, and the submission will be flagged in our system.
-
Withdrawal of Published Articles: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article will be retracted, and the journal will issue a formal retraction notice. The author will be notified, and the retraction will be published on the journal's website.
5. Consequences of Plagiarism
-
Rejection of Manuscript: Manuscripts found to contain significant plagiarism will be rejected, and the author will be informed of the reasons for rejection.
-
Academic Integrity Violation: Authors found guilty of plagiarism may face a ban from submitting to JAIEC in the future. Such violations will be recorded, and the author’s name may be flagged in the academic community.
-
Retraction of Published Articles: If plagiarism is detected in an article after it has been published, the journal will retract the article and publish a statement explaining the retraction. This could also affect the author’s professional reputation.
6. Self-Plagiarism (Multiple Submissions of the Same Work)
Self-plagiarism occurs when an author reuses portions of their previously published work without proper citation or acknowledgment. JAIEC does not allow the submission of manuscripts that have been previously published, either in whole or in part, without proper citation.
-
Previously Published Work: Authors may submit work that has been previously published in other journals only if proper citation is made to the original source. This includes research data, figures, and text.
-
Duplicate Submission: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals at the same time without disclosure. Such behavior will lead to rejection and may be reported to other journals.
7. Educational Responsibility
-
Author Education: JAIEC encourages authors to develop a strong understanding of academic integrity and proper citation practices. We provide access to resources and guides on how to avoid plagiarism and how to ensure that all sources are correctly referenced.
-
Editorial Training: The editorial team is trained to recognize signs of plagiarism and is responsible for upholding the journal's ethical standards by ensuring that all manuscripts are rigorously checked before publication.
8. Reporting Plagiarism
-
Whistleblower Policy: If any individual (including reviewers, editors, or other authors) suspects that plagiarism has occurred, they are encouraged to report it to the editorial team. The journal treats all reports of plagiarism with confidentiality and will investigate any claims thoroughly.
-
Investigation: The editorial team will investigate allegations of plagiarism promptly and take appropriate action, including contacting the author, reviewing the manuscript, and possibly involving external experts.
9. Policy Review and Updates
-
This Plagiarism Policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains in compliance with international best practices and academic publishing standards. Any changes to the policy will be communicated to authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
By adhering to this Plagiarism Policy, the Journal of the Artificial Intelligence Engineers Consortium (JAIEC) strives to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, ensuring that all research published in the journal is original, credible, and properly attributed to its rightful sources. This policy is designed to protect both authors and the integrity of the scholarly community at large.
